This page describes the Free Tier BigBlueButton service provided by Blindside Networks for edX/2U and Open edX (referred hereafter as simply “edX”).
The Free Tier service has the following restrictions:
- The maximum length for each session is 60 minutes
- The maximum number of concurrent users per session is 25
- Recordings expire after seven (7) days and are not downloadable
- Student webcams are only visible to the moderator
BigBlueButton is a full-featured virtual classroom designed for online learning. You have many options for upgrading BigBlueButton.
1. Setup your own BigBlueButton server
BigBlueButton is open source! You can setup a new server Ubuntu 20.04 server, install the latest version, add the LTI integration, configure your edX instance to use your BigBlueButton server.
2. Engage your Open edX partner
If you are hosting your edX site with an official Open edX hosting partner, reach out to them directly as they may be able to provide you hosting for BigBlueButton.
