We develop BigBlueButton in open with a world-wide community of developers, educators, students, commercial companies, governments, and sovereign nations all working towards the mission of building the world’s most effective virtual classroom.
This openness creates a commonwealth all working in parallel towards our mission.
The core developers are all from commercial companies. The educators have direct feedback into the products. And we leverage the latest research and feedback in creating our roadmap.
Anyone can contribute to the BigBlueButton project. We invite you to post a question or feedback to our bigbluebutton-dev mailing list and see how quickly the community responds.
There is no proprietary software or restrictions from running BigBlueButton locally, giving you the ability to be compliant with GDPR in a way that exceeds any proprietary software.
The core BigBlueButton team cares about good design and elegant software. Each release goes through extensive testing with our world-wide community, ensuring every educator has our best work for delivering their virtual classrooms.

In 2022, the Moodle project integrated the BigBlueButton plugin into the core of Moodle 4.0. This means the integration takes full advantage of Moodle.
In a similar manner, BigBlueButton integration was built into the core of Canvas in 2012. The same was for Schoology (2014) and Sakai (2012).
There are a number of companies that have worked on BigBlueButton for years and can provide you with hosting, customization, and full support for delivering effective virtual classrooms with BigBlueButton.
