Open Source License

The components developed by the BigBlueButton project are available under the GNU Lesser General Public License

This means that you are free to integrate BigBlueButton within your educational or commercial applications, whether you distribute the applications or run them on a hosted environment, as long as you adhere to the terms of the LGPL license.

BigBlueButton and the BigBlueButton logo are trademarks of BigBlueButton Inc.   Most companies that embed BigBlueButton into their commercial products do so by removing external references to BigBlueButton.  If you intend to sell a product or service based on BigBlueButton, such as modifying the source code and embedding it in your commercial application for resale to end-users, and wish to still refer to it as BigBlueButton, then you must follow our Trademark Guidelines. The LGPL license is for the source code, not the trademark.

If you do make enhancements, keep in mind that BigBlueButton is the product of many dedicated people who believe it’s possible to write a high-quality open source web conferencing system. The goal of this project is to offer you choice (you don’t have to choose a commercial web conferencing system). If you share this philosophy and like the choice, then you’ll find that the more you give to the BigBlueButton community, the more you get back.
