BigBlueButton Developer Summit X

Last week members from the BigBlueButton community gathered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the 10th BigBlueButton developer summit. The developer community has held summits every six months over the past five years to coordinate and collaborate together.

BigBlueButton is a very active open source project for web conferencing.  It has almost 15,000 commits on its GitHub repository by 69 developers, and it has been forked over 3,000 times by other developers (the most forks by any project tagged ‘webrtc’).

These summits give developers a regular opportunity to coordinate their work on improving the project and to plan the next six months.  There were three main areas of focus for this summit:

  • BigBlueButton 2.0
  • HTML5 client for students (Android)
  • iOS client for students

The summit was attended by developers from Blindside NetworksHostBBB, iMDTSeneca’s Centre for Development of Open Technology (CDOT),  RIAdvice, and Mconf Tecnologia.

Attendees included Alexandre Kreismann, Anna Jecho, Anton Georgiev, Calvin Li, Calvin Walton, Chad Pilkey, Danny Perrone, Felipe Cecagno, Fred Dixon, Gabriel de Campes, Ghazi Triki, Jacob Prud’homme, Jesus Federico, Joshua Arts, Klaus Klein, Leonardo Daronco, Lucas Zawacki, Mario Gasparoni, Matt Marangoni, Oswaldo Acauan, Paulo Lanzarin, Pedro Marin, Richard Alam, Robin Luo, Robin Luo, Stephen Dame, Supriya Gadigone, Tiago Jacobs, and Tyler Copeland.

We had developers attend from Brazil, the United States, Tunisia, and Canada and some of whom participated remotely.

On Friday the team members gave a series of presentations updating the community on their project. The presentations were made using BigBlueButton.
