Revisiting the HTML 5 UI Design

Recently, at the BigBlueButton HackFest, Tyler Copeland, BigBlueButton’s UI designer created a revised user interface for the HTML 5 client. The revisions were based on using the current HTML 5 prototype, along with initial feedback from current BigBlueButton users.

Below you can watch Tyler walk through the revised version of the HTML 5 interface. In this video you will see a working wireframed prototype of both the general user and presenter scenarios. There is also an introduction to the new webcam display, conversing, and the new ways to present and annotate slides.

The HTML5 client will not replace the existing Flash client — all current functionality of BigBlueButton will remain intact. We are adding to BigBlueButton the ability for a user to join a session through an HTML5 interface (no flash). The first version of the HTML5 client will support viewing of slides, users, hearing the teacher, seeing the teacher (one video stream), and two-way chat.

Over time, we’ll successively enhance the capabilities of the HTML5 client with two-way audio/video and full presentation control (which is being mocked up in these UI designs we’re posting).
